Most of us suffer from diminished eyesight as we age and the reason is presbyopia. That’s when you can no longer sharply focus on objects up close and your arms aren’t long enough to get that object out there where it can be clearly seen. As this gets worse, you may want to consider neck lanyards.
The answer is those half-glasses used for reading as the problem manifests itself most in near things and especially reading. Suddenly keeping those glasses near at all times is paramount, but no one wants to wear them all of the time.
The answer is a neck lanyard to hold the glasses around your neck so you aren’t setting them down and then forgetting where they are. It’s not so much an issue of faulty memory as it is an issue of putting them on and off so much it becomes second nature to set them down and you do it without thinking.
Now lanyards do come in wide selection of types so you are not limited to the cheap ones you get when registering for a conference. They come in wide straps and bright colors as well as vinyl and even leather.
For fashion conscious women there are beaded lanyards and if you are in to beading you can probably make and decorate one on your own and have a one-of-a-kind designer lanyard that won’t be copied by anyone else. If you are really good at it there will probably be requests from co-workers for their own custom beaded lanyard and you might just work yourself into a sideline business.
All is not lost when your vision starts to deteriorate. Get a pair of reading spectacles and a fancy lanyard to hook them to and keep on with life. Struggling to keep track of them will be over and you will feel more competent when you no longer have to remember where your glasses are. You may also find a second career in the process.
