Should You Buy Used Bunk Beds?

Bunk beds come with many advantages. And used bunk beds can save you a bundle, especially when you consider they are pricier compared to buying separate single beds.

Other than purchasing online, you will also find a lot of these beds in thrift stores and second hand stores. To some, second hand stores are great places where you can find inexpensive and yet wonderful finds.

Kids outgrow bunk beds

When your child is young, his imagination often involves pirate ships, space ships and fortresses. Bunk beds are very appealing to kids because they can use it in their playtime. However, it is important to note that kids grow very fast and they will eventually outgrow their fascination for bunk beds.

It is also inevitable that their beds will become too small for their growing bodies. For this reason, it may not be very practical to spend so much on a bed that you will be getting rid of in the next two or three years. Respectively, the beds that you will find in second hand stores were likely used for just a couple of years. It is very likely that the ones you will find are still very durable and are in good condition.

Damages

If you opt to purchase from second hand stores, you should be extra careful in taking your pick. While it is common to see minor damages such as chipped off paint and scratches, it is also possible to find beds with more than minor damages.

Be sure to check the guardrails, headboards, ladders and footboards to ensure that they are still durable and are securely fastened to the bed. Be sure to check on the screws especially if you are purchasing a bed that is made of steel.

When buying a used bunk bed, it is also a good idea to ask the storekeeper for information on the previous owner – how long they have had the bed and how old the children were. This will give you a good idea of how much wear the bed acquired over the years.
